Australian Idol judge Marcia Hines do the unthinkable and mime her performance of Disco Inferno

Marcia Vanilli, perhaps?

Marcia, Marcia, Marcia . . . viewers have scorned Hines for miming on Monday night

DID Australian Idol judge Marcia Hines do the unthinkable and mime her performance of Disco Inferno during Monday night’s show?

That was the damning accusation from Idol viewers yesterday who claim the judge could be heard singing The Trammps cover — while her mouth didn’t appear to be moving, reminiscent of disgraced lip-synching ’ 80s pop duo Milli Vanilli.

The veteran singer who has for almost five years watched a stream of wannabe stars sing to a live audience has come under fire from viewers who accuse her of a ‘‘ breathless’’ performance despite ‘‘ jumping all over the stage dancing’’.

‘‘ Definitely miming Marcia. Sorry girlfriend,’’ one viewer wrote.

‘‘ This is not in the spirit of Australian Idol,’’ another told Confidential’s blog.

It was a free advertisement for her new album Discotheque but Hines’ voice could be heard while the microphone was ‘‘ nowhere near her mouth’’, one viewer complained.

Others questioned the fairness of Hines being allowed the luxury of lipsynching when she judges contestants who are forced to perform live.

‘‘ She was dead-set miming and I think it’s so unfair when the others have to sing live,’’ one said.

An online Confidential poll showed 57 per cent of viewers thought Hines faked the performance while 42 per cent said she wouldn’t dare.

A Channel 10 spokeswoman yesterday denied the claim saying Hines ‘‘ definitely’’ performed live but admitted ‘‘ reverberation’’ in one part of the song might have made it appear as though she was lip-synching.

‘‘ The reverberation caused a bit of an echo which might havemadeit look as though she was lip-synching.’’

As for Hines’ ‘‘ breathless’’ performance, the spokeswoman said she was ‘‘ a pretty fit person for a 53-year-old’’.
